Kedarnath temple is situated at an altitude of 3584 meters above sea level. Road facility is not available till Kedarnath temple. So the last motor stop to Kedarnath temple is Gaurikund. But the bus will drop you at Sonprayag, 7 Km from Gaurikund. Because no public transport or personal vehicle is allowed after Sonprayag just to manage the traffic situation in the valley. So from Sonprayag, you have to take the sharing taxi to reach Gaurikund.

To reach Kedarnath temple, you have to trek almost 20 kilometers after Gaurikund.
